Alupent Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Alupent is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
 
Beta Blockers
Taking Alupent and a beta blocker together can decrease the effectiveness of both medications. Additionally, people with asthma should generally avoid beta blockers, as they may worsen their condition. While some beta blockers are less likely than others to interact with Alupent, all beta blockers can potentially cause problems.
 
Certain Diuretics
Taking Alupent and certain diuretics together can increase your risk of low potassium levels (hypokalemia), especially when you use Alupent more frequently than recommended. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together.
 
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
Alupent should not be taken with MAOIs or within two weeks of stopping an MAOI because doing so may result in dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension).
 
Tricyclic Antidepressants
Alupent should not be taken with tricyclic antidepressants or within two weeks of stopping a tricyclic antidepressant because it may result in dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension) or an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia).
