Arcapta Dosage

When treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with Arcapta, the dosage is the same for everyone. This medicine comes as a capsule that is used in a Neohaler that punctures the capsule; the powder is then inhaled using your own breath. Do not use more than one dose in a 24-hour period, as it increases the risk for side effects.

An Introduction to Dosing for Arcapta

There is only one standard dosage of Arcapta™ (indacaterol maleate), regardless of your age, weight, or other medical conditions. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dosage of Arcapta for COPD

The recommended Arcapta dose for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one 75-mcg capsule inhaled once a day. Although Arcapta comes in capsule form, these capsules are never to be swallowed (they are not effective if swallowed). They are used in the Arcapta Neohaler™. The Neohaler punctures the capsule, and then the powder is inhaled using your own breath.

Use only the Neohaler (not any other type of capsule inhaler) for Arcapta capsules.

General Information on Using Arcapta

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Arcapta include the following:

  • This medication is inhaled into the lungs once a day. It does not matter what time of day you use it, as long as it is at the same time each day. Make sure to separate the doses by 24 hours; taking two doses within 24 hours increases the risk for side effects.

  • It is important to learn exactly how to use your Neohaler. Make sure your healthcare provider shows you the steps needed to use the Neohaler.

  • For Arcapta to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or Arcapta dosing in general, please talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
