Arcapta™ (indacaterol maleate) is a medication prescribed to help prevent airway spasms in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Although this medicine comes in capsule form, it should never be swallowed (it is ineffective if it is swallowed). Rather, the capsule is put into the Arcapta Neohaler™, which punctures the capsule and releases a powder. This powder is then inhaled using your own breath. Use only the Neohaler (not any other type of capsule inhaler) for Arcapta capsules.
Arcapta is inhaled into the lungs once a day. It does not matter what time of day you use it, as long as it is at the same time each day. Make sure to separate the doses by 24 hours; taking two doses within 24 hours increases the risk for side effects. It is important to learn exactly how to use your Neohaler. Make sure your healthcare provider shows you the steps needed to use it.
