COPD and Exercise
As part of COPD treatment, COPD rehabilitation (which is also known as pulmonary rehabilitation or pulmonary rehab) may be recommended. COPD rehabilitation is a coordinated program of exercise, disease management training, and counseling that can help you stay more active and carry out your day-to-day activities.
If you have COPD, exercise training may be part of your treatment process. This training includes showing you exercises to help your arms and legs get stronger. You may also learn breathing exercises that strengthen the muscles needed for breathing.
What is included in your COPD rehabilitation program will depend on what you and your doctor think you need. Other than exercise, COPD rehabilitation may include nutrition advice, counseling, and education about your disease and how to manage it.
