Terbutaline Sulfate Drug Information

People with asthma may be prescribed terbutaline sulfate, a medicine that works to help the muscles around the airways relax and that may also have an effect on mast cells in the lungs. The brand-name form (Brethine^®) is no longer available; however, you can buy generic terbutaline sulfate. It comes in tablet form and is generally taken three times a day.

 

Prior to beginning treatment for asthma or emphysema, it is important to review with your healthcare provider relevant safety information on this drug. Terbutaline sulfate may not be appropriate for people with certain medical conditions, such as a seizure disorder, congestive heart failure, or diabetes. In addition, you should know what side effects to watch out for, such as an allergic reaction or breathing problems that get worse.
