Fluticasone and Salmeterol Dosing
Generally, fluticasone and salmeterol is taken twice a day, with about 12 hours in between doses. Fluticasone and salmeterol should be taken at the same times each day to maintain even levels of the drug in your blood. A few of the factors that can affect fluticasone and salmeterol dosing include your age, the severity of your asthma, and other medications you are taking.
An Introduction to Fluticasone and Salmeterol Dosing
The dose of fluticasone and salmeterol (Advair®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:- Whether you are using the Advair Diskus® or the Advair® HFA inhaler
- Your age
- Whether you are taking fluticasone and salmeterol for asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- The severity of your asthma
- Other medications (including asthma medications) you may be taking.
As always, do not adjust your fluticasone and salmeterol dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Advair Diskus Dosing
For asthma treatment, the recommended Advair Diskus dose depends on your age and other asthma medications you have taken. For children ages 4 to 11, the recommended dose is one inhalation of Advair Diskus 100/50 twice daily, about 12 hours apart. For older children and adults, fluticasone and salmeterol dosing will depend on the dose of other asthma medications taken in the past, varying from Advair Diskus 100/50 twice daily to Advair Diskus 500/50 twice daily.
The recommended Advair Diskus dose for COPD treatment is Advair Diskus 250/50 twice daily.
Advair HFA Inhaler Dosing
The recommended Advair HFA inhaler dose for asthma depends on the dose of other asthma medications taken in the past, varying from two inhalations of Advair HFA 45/21 twice daily to two inhalations of Advair HFA 230/21 twice daily.
