Pediatric and Off-Label Indications for Fluticasone Inhalers

Are Fluticasone Inhalers Used in Children With Asthma?

Fluticasone inhalers are approved for the treatment of asthma in children four years of age and older. Young children usually require help using the fluticasone inhaler correctly. Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider about the best ways to treat childhood asthma. Inhaled steroids, such as fluticasone, may slightly slow the growth of children or teenagers.

Are Fluticasone Inhalers Used "Off-Label"?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend the fluticasone inhaler for something other than preventing asthma attacks. This is referred to as an "off-label" use of the medication. At this time, the fluticasone inhaler is used off-label to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
