Ipratropium Bromide Inhalation Solution Dosing

Ipratropium bromide inhalation solution is only available in one standard dose, regardless of your age, weight, or other medical conditions. When treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with ipratropium bromide inhalation solution, dosing consists of one vial (500 mcg) inhaled using a nebulizer three to four times a day, with six to eight hours between doses. In order for the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.

 

Ipratropium Bromide Inhalation Solution Dosing: An Introduction

There is only one standard dose of ipratropium bromide inhalation solution (Atrovent® inhalation solution), regardless of your weight, age, or other medical conditions. As is always the case, do not adjust your ipratropium bromide inhalation solution dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
 

Ipratropium Bromide Inhalation Solution Dosing for COPD

The recommended starting ipratropium bromide inhalation solution dose for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one ipratropium bromide inhalation solution vial (500 mcg) inhaled by nebulization three to four times daily, with six to eight hours between doses.
 
Ipratropium bromide inhalation solution can be mixed with albuterol solution (Accuneb®, Proventil®) or metaproterenol (Alupent®), but must be used within one hour.

  • Ipratropium bromide inhalation solution is a liquid form of ipratropium bromide that is used in a nebulizer. You will need to purchase or rent a nebulizer in order to use ipratropium bromide inhalation solution.
     
  • Make sure you know exactly how to use and clean the nebulizer.
     
  • For ipratropium bromide inhalation solution to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Ipratropium bromide inhalation solution will not work if you stop taking it.
