Common Side Effects of Ipratropium Bromide Inhalation Solution

Ipratropium bromide inhalation solution has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
 
In these studies, the most common side effects of ipratropium bromide inhalation solution included:
 
  • Bronchitis -- in up to 14.6 percent of people
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- up to 13.2 percent
  • Difficulty breathing -- up to 9.6 percent
  • Headaches -- up to 6.4 percent.
     
Other common ipratropium bromide inhalation solution side effects (occurring in 1 to 5 percent of people) included:
 
  • Pain
  • Flu-like symptoms (such as a fever, chills, or body aches)
  • Back pain
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Nausea
  • Coughing
  • A sore throat
  • A runny or stuffy nose
  • Sinus infections.

You may experience some or none of the ipratropium bromide inhalation solution side effects listed in this article. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects while taking the drug or if something "just does not seem right." While it may not be a side effect of ipratropium bromide inhalation solution, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
