Perforomist and Breastfeeding
There have not been any studies done on Perforomist (formoterol solution) and breastfeeding in humans, so it is not known if the medication passes through breast milk. However, animal studies have shown that Perforomist does pass through breast milk in rats. Because of the serious side effects that could potentially occur in a nursing infant, the manufacturer of Perforomist recommends that women use the drug cautiously when breastfeeding.
At this time, no information is available about whether Perforomist™ (formoterol solution) passes through breast milk. Because serious side effects could potentially occur in a nursing infant, the manufacturer of Perforomist recommends that women use the medication cautiously when breastfeeding. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding.
No research has been done to see if Perforomist passes through breast milk in humans (although it has been shown to pass through breast milk in rats). If your healthcare provider recommends taking Perforomist while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your child. It is important to note that Perforomist is only approved to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a disease that is very uncommon in women of reproductive age.

After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, you and your healthcare provider can make a shared decision about Perforomist and breastfeeding in your particular situation.
