How to Use Terbutaline
If you have recently been prescribed terbutaline sulfate (Brethine®), you may have questions about how to use it. Typically, the medicine is taken three times a day -- the strength your healthcare provider recommends will depend on your age, among other factors.
For example, the recommended dosage of terbutaline tablets for adults and children 16 years of age and older is 5 mg three times daily. For younger children ages 12 to 15, the suggested starting dose is 2.5 mg three times a day.
This drug should be taken at the same times each day, as this will help to keep an even level of medication in your blood. You can take it with or without food. However, you may want to take terbutaline with food if you notice that it bothers your stomach.
