Problems With Terbutaline

Most people are able to take terbutaline sulfate (Brethine®) without any problems. However, this asthma and emphysema medication has the potential to cause side effects.

In clinical trials, some of the most commonly reported problems with terbutaline included:

  • Headaches
  • Nervousness
  • Heart palpitations (feelings of a rapidly or forcefully beating heart).

Some side effects of terbutaline are more serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away, including:

  • Increased heart rate
  • Signs of an allergic reaction
  • Worsening breathing problems.
